Fish & chip babies

Please note, we are no longer able to take and forward any "fish and chip jumpers/hats". If you wish to donate these please find somewhere that is able to take them before you start knitting. Thank you.

In parts of Sub-Saharan Africa new-born babies are being sent home from hospital wrapped in newspaper as their families are too poor to provide blankets or baby clothes -hence the name "fish & chip babies". A customer informed us of an initiative to send baby jumpers and hats to these babies. She left a pattern for a simple jumper that can be and members of our knitting group started knitting. The pattern can be down loaded as a pdf file from the link below and knitted up from oddments of wool, bright colours are prefered.

Knitters from our group and from the Old Parish Church have knitted 340 jumpers and 300 hats. See article in Kirriemuir Herald 4th September 2012
